Addiction Prevention in a European Context

Within the network activities, euro net ensures that prevention centres conduct joint projects and develop common standards at the European level. It also promotes the exchange of methodological and evaluative standards.

To date, European addiction professionals have mostly exchanged experiences within individual, national projects. Thanks to projects such as euro peers, euro youth and euro parents, it has now been possible for the first time to exchange experiences as well as promote and intensify the collaboration in cooperation projects that are based on jointly developed guidelines. The work on joint activities creates synergy effects that can be specifically utilised in the activities in the field.

European cooperation in a joint project does not mean, however, watering down addiction prevention efforts on the basis of the 'lowest common denominator'. Rather, by jointly examining regional, cultural and social differences, it is concerned with finding specific answers to the problems faced and questioning the European-wide simplification of the addiction prevention standards.
